It is with much sadness that we have to write this email about another of our beloved greyhounds. As some of you may know, Checkers has been suffering from what they call Degenerative Myelopathy which is a progressive disease of the spinal cord in older dogs. It begins with a loss of coordination in the hind limbs and will eventually result in paralysis. We have know that the day would come when we had to make the terrible decision to put him to sleep ( I hate the word Euthanasia). After much soul searching, we made the decision yesterday to let him go. He would have been 13 in April and he has given us much joy in the 9 1/2 years that we have had him.

We still have Mocha so the house doesn't seem so empty but Checkers will be greatly missed. It is unbelievable how animals entwine themselves into your heart.
